About Stuart

me_at_imacUpon leaving School I actually trained to be a Chef, “Don’t ask” but lets just say that school and I did not see eye to eye and I enjoyed cooking. So hey what the heck a quick route out of formal education and into college. I worked for several hotel and restaurants locally, which I ironically have been back and shot for commercially or used as locations for various assignments.

After leaving the world of catering, I decided I wanted to be a Sports Photographer and was cheeky enough to contact Mike King of the observer for advice. It was through his contacts that I eventually did a stint with EMPICS in Nottingham. After gaining work experience and shifts at the Ayrshire Post, Daily Record, Scottish Sun, Evening Times, Glasgow Herald, as well as shooting commercial/events photography for Robert Stewart and theatrical work for Borderline Theatre Company.

In 1994 studied Photo-Journalism full-time at Stradbroke under the guidance of Paul Delmar. Upon graduating from Sheffield College and freelancing for various regional and national newspapers in Yorkshire, I then made my way back up to Ayrshire and where I have worked as a general practice photographer covering commercial, lifestyle, portraiture and weddings since 1995 onwards. In 1996 I managed a Portrait Studio for a local entrepreneur before moving to Robert Stewart Photography as a portrait and commercial photographer.

In late 1999 I was invited to lecture part-time for Ayr College developing 4 evening classes in Adobe Photoshop. I enjoyed teaching so much, that I did a year full-time and fitted my photographic assignments around college life before switching back to teaching part-time in 2001.

It was through running commercial courses in Adobe Photoshop and digital workflow that I built a wide professional photography clients for both training and consultancy in Photoshop that lead to working with Photographers worldwide.

Over the past 7 years I have lectured in digital photography worldwide for Photo Training Overseas, Fujifilm, The Master Photographers Association and The British Institute of Professional Photographers. I split my time between weddings, commercial, portrait photography and training photographers worldwide.

I would say as well as being a Professional Photographer and Photoshop Educator. I am also a blogger and author of over 12 Training DVD titles including the Big Picture and Totally Dynamic HDR.

I am married to Gillian who also helps out with the business and we have two sons Julian and Casey , who you might see feature in some of the screen cast and articles on the blog from time to time.
