6 Techniques for Perfect Pictures

At the beginning of the month I wrote my first ever article for Photoshop Creative magazine and the other day I submitted it for approval. Fingers crossed it gets in… Anyway, me being me, I recorded the creation of the article as a series of screencasts and saying as it won’t be out for a few months I thought I would share with you the 3rd video in the series.

Part One

Part Two

Now, when it came to deciding what to do. I could gone down the road of 6 special effects based techniques. But for the vast majority of readers this would be like going to McDonald’s. Junk food tastes great, but ultimately it leaves you feeling hungry again a couple of hours later.

Therefore, I decided to go for the home cooked Sunday Lunch :) set of techniques that can be used again and again. Ok, so they are a little basic for some of you, but for a lot of people this is what they need to be learning about and applying to their photo’s. There are some masking techniques in there for more advanced users, so its not all back to basics stuff… Watch out for them! Also, and just to put a little twist on things for those of you who use Bridge and Lightroom. I have been sneaky, because you can pretty much do the same thing in either RAW processing applications. So, if you want to push your skill set a little see if you can figure out what buttons you would push to do the same thing in either piece of software.

I must say Thanks to Rosie Tanner who is the editor of Photoshop Creative magazine for giving me the chance to write for them. It was fun and an interesting challenge to say the least. I have no idea when they will be using the article but I would think early either in December or January next year. As soon as I find out I will let you know!

Another good tutorial, Stuart. I’m sure everyone will find something fresh within it. Thanks for putting it together for us and good luck with the article I’m looking forward to seeing it in print.

  6. Stuart Little Says:

Thanks Catherine it should be fun seeing it in print. We are starting to build up a healthy range of tear sheets from the magazines.

  7. Rob Brook Says:

Interesting techniques Stu , it’s amazing how many different ways there are to do the same things. I’d of never thought of changing the colour density twice but can see how it would advantageous now for selective focusing.

  8. Stuart Little Says:

@Rob, you tend to find sometimes that working on the color in different ways produces different results. In the portrait version of this series I use it in a different way again to suit the girl in the shot. I will post that nearer the time of the article being released.

  9. Jan Iversen, Singapore Says:

First, thank you for your wonderful video tutorials. They are a source of great pleasure and knowledge to me.

However I live as far away as Singapore and have difficulty in hearing your voice clearly, maybe it is possible for you to turn up volume?

Have a nice and creative day

    Jan Iversen.

  10. Stuart Little Says:

Thanks for your comments and I am pleased you like the site. The recording level we use is as high as it can be without us distorting the sound. So I am afraid there is not a huge amount I can do at this end for you maybe you could try increasing the internal volume of the your own computer to see if that helps?
