Creating a Water Reflection with Photoshop

Well here it is… After years of people asking me for a decent water reflection tutorial. I have finally got my finger out and created one for your viewing pleasure. Its pretty in-depth, because I will be showing you how to create the ripples and also how to control the light. So pour a drink or get the popcorn in the microwave because it’s a good one. Enjoy!Ok, it may not be photorealistic but who cares it fun to do, it looks good and thats the main thing. One thing to note is the choice of image. Try pick a shot that has a defined edge at the bottom. If you are going to go for this mill pond look, you have got to have something with a little bit of horizon for you to have any chance of it looking semi-realistic.

    Hi,

Always used Displacement Map in the past to achieve this effect but I have to admit that this technique produces a far superior effect.

You have much more control and if you are not satisfied with the result it can be tweaked until you are happy.

    Fully recommend this process.

    Regards David

  9. It would probably work with either to be honest.
